How Excessive Testosterone Leads To Your Hair Loss
Author: steve (5:45 pm)
by: Rudy Silva
Hair loss has been observed and studied for ages, and some interesting discoveries were made in ancient times. It was noticed that eunuchs:
* those males without genitals-never went bald.
* men who were castrated as a result of accidents in battle also never went bald
This was the first sign that testosterone had something to do with hair loss. It has also been found that the more recessive the hair gene, the chances you have of becoming bald.
Androgens Testosterone and Adrenaline
What exactly are androgens? Androgens are sex hormones mainly produced by males. The main male androgen is testosterone. Androgens are produced by your adrenal glands - testosterone and adrenaline - which protect your body in stressful situations and give you the power to respond to dangerous situations.
When you are under constant stress, you have adrenals that are overactive. Under this stress, you are are producing both testosterone and adrenaline. The excess testosterone, you create can be a cause in your hair loss. Also if you constantly over eat fatty foods and red meat, this will cause an overactive adrenal gland.
Hair Loss and Prostate Gland
There is a definite connection between Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) and the prostate gland. The prostate gland is actually a cluster of small glands in males surrounding the urethra, located just below the bladder. There is not a lot known about all the functions of the prostate, except that it serves to squeeze seminal fluid into and through the urethra during ejaculation.
Prostate problems can cause serious problems with urination if it becomes enlarged, and sometimes the prostate becomes cancerous. Non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
DHT is responsible for the division of cells in the prostate, and is normally expelled by the prostate. However, when the prostate fails to expel the DHT, it builds up and causes enlargement. It has been confirmed that typical North American and northern European diets lend to the perpetuation of BPH and prostate cancer, whereas these are uncommon phenomena in other lands and was even uncommon here in the past.
This is significant since the overproduction of DHT is responsible for BPH and prostate cancer, and is also responsible for MPB or androgenetic alopecia.
The findings in research for BPH cures have usually simultaneously produced benefits in hair growth.
So to minimize the genetic tendency for hair loss be aware of excess stress in your life and work on reducing it. Learn what kind of diet is necessary to keep your prostate healthy.
Two additional facts about hair loss are:
* If you are blond-haired, you have a greater tendency toward hair loss than darker-haired people. But if you are Caucasian, then you have a greater tendency toward hair loss than non-Caucasian people.
* Beyond the genetic tendency of certain people for hair loss, diet seems to play a factor in hair loss. This is good to know, since this is one additional you can make changes to you to your lifestyle.

Herbal hair loss remedies for external use.
Author: steve (5:30 pm)
by: Richard Mitchell
In a separate article in this series we looked at some of the most popular herbal hair loss remedies for ingestion. Here we’ll expand that theme to include some potentially useful herbal remedies for external use.
Aloe vera - some Indian tribes of Mexico attribute their thick, healthy hair to regular use of aloe vera gel which they rub into the scalp and hair each night. Herbalists believe that the herb activates the production of nitric oxide and contains an enzyme known as superoxide dismutane. Some experts feel that these two substances combine to stimulate hair regrowth in those suffering from male pattern type baldness.
Onion (Allium cepa) - this has a high sulfur content that is believed to have hair-healing properties. Some herbalists believe that rubbing the scalp with half an onion before washing hair encourages hair growth.
Red pepper (Capiscum) - a popular folk remedy that involves the application of a red pepper poultice to the scalp to act as a skin irritant. This draws blood and nutrients to the scalp and encourages the release of histimines to stimulate cell division and hair regrowth.
Safflower oil (Carthamus tinctorious) - Eastern health practitioners believe that safflower oil applied to the scalp acts as a vasolidator that dilates blood vessels. This allows more blood to deliver nutrients to the hair follicle thus creating an environment conducive to hair regrowth.

Prescription Medicines That Are Proven To Treat Hair Loss
If you are like millions of Americans and are losing your hair, you can do something to stop it. Years ago, there were no viable treatments on the market to slow or regrow your hair back. In the last 10 years a couple of drugs have gained popularity by treating and regrowing hair. There are two current medicines on the market. One requires a prescription and the other medicine is an over the counter remedy. Both medicines have been proven effective by the Federal Drug Administration for slowing and regrowing back your hair.
Minoxodil
Minoxodil is the active ingredient in Rogaine. Rogaine is a topical solution that is applied twice daily to the scalp. Over the course of a few months, not only will it slow your hair loss but also regrow it. Regrowing your hair can take a while and results are more often seen on the crown of the scalp.
Propecia
Propecia is actually a drug to shrink the prostate, but was shown effective in controlling the hormones that cause hair loss. Propecia requires a prescription by your doctor. This drug has been proven to work better then Minoxodil in regrowing hair back. It also grows hair back on the front of the scalp as well. While both remedies are not a cure and won’t grow back a full head of hair, they do slow down the hair loss and can fill up some of the more pronounced areas. So if you’re losing your hair check into these two hair loss remedies.

Health - Common Hair Loss Treatments

Common Types of Hair Loss Treatments
Hair loss affects millions of men. Not only does it make men look older beyond their years, it also has a negative effect on self esteem and social confidence. There are three types of hair loss treatments not including hairpieces, weaves and surgical methods.
The most widely used treatments are natural based and cosmetically based lotions, shampoos and herbal supplements. Many users swear by these products that claim to be effective for regrowing hair. Most of these products clean the scalp which allow the hair follicle to breathe and deliver important nutrients to the hair and follicle. Others decrease the hormones in the body that have shown in studies to decrease hair growth.
The second types of products are medical topical solutions. One of the commonly known over the counter topical solution is Rogaine, which contains Minoxodil. Minoxodil has been medically proven to grow hair. Other products are special concoctions such as Minoxodil with Retin A. Retin A allows the hair follicle in the scalp to absorb more of the Minoxodil. These special topical concoctions usually require a prescription from a doctor.
The third type is an oral treatment called Propecia. Propecia lowers chemicals levels in the body that decrease the growth of hair. Propecia has been shown effective in regrowing hair in many studies. However, Propecia does require a prescription. So if you started losing your hair learn more about the various treatments available and you will be looking better in no time.
