Propecia works on the main cause of hair loss by significantly reducing the amount of DHT. DHT is a a chemical that shrinks the hair follicle until no hair grows. Does Propecia always work ?
In the longest hair loss clinical study where the results were measured by actual hair counts, in average more than 2 out of 3 men on Propecia re grew hair. whereas all man in the study who talk other pills lost hair.
Does Propecia have side effects ?
Clinical studies showed that side effects were uncommon and did not affect most men. Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
Author: steve (1:15 pm)
by: Lee Dobbins
Hair loss is a fact of life for many men - in fact there’s a 50 / 50 chance that if you are a man you will experience excessive hair loss as you grow older. And it’s not only men that are affected by hair loss, women and even some children can lose hair in abnormal amounts as well. There can be many causes for hair loss but the most typical is simply the aging of your body.
While some people are not bothered by losing their hair, many others do not like the way it looks and would like to improve their appearance. Luckily, there are many ways to deal with thinning hair or hair loss. The variety of hair loss products on the market today make it possible to find the hair loss product that will work best for you.
One popular hair loss medication is Minoxidil, or Rogaine. This topical treatment, is applied to your head on a schedule set by your doctor. This medication slows hair loss and even promotes growth in some people. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for everyone, plus it takes 2 to 4 months for results to show. It cannot treat a receding hairline, but is used for treating balding on the crown of the head. Minoxidil or Rogaine is approved for use by men or women.
Another hair loss medication is Propecia. This medicine is very similar to Rogaine, except that it is a pill which can take 12 months to show results. Propecia does not work for every one. With both Rogaine and Propecia, the results only last for as long as you take the medication. Once you stop taking it, our hair loss continues, so if you decide on either of these medications be aware you are making a long term commitment.
If you don’t want to take medicines for your hair loss there are other products that are much less expensive but provide a temporary solution. Hair volumizers are are aerosol products that thicken and cover bald spots. You may have seen them on TV, but the new ones today are much better than they used to be, and are much more durable and longer lasting.
Another product is hair-thickening fiber, which is a natural substance that binds to your hair to make it look thicker and bald spots much less noticeable. These have also improved over the years, and don’t stain, are considered safe and must be washed out.
Still another hair loss product is alopecia masking lotion. This product works by eliminating the contrast between your hair and your scalp. It is basically camouflage for your hair.
Last, but not least, there are a number of vitamins such as Shen Min, which is a Chinese herb made from the eastern wild rose, which is said to help with baldness, and a whole range of other vitamins that make similar claims.
No matter which solution you choose, hair loss experts agree that it is important to act upon hair loss when you first see it. We are born with a finite amount of hair follicles, and when they die out from male or female pattern baldness, it is impossible to get them back. So acting fast can ensure that the dormant or damaged hair follicles are treated properly.

Hair Pieces, Toupees, and Hair Systems
Author: steve (12:45 pm)
by: Raj Pandey
Commonly referred to as a wigs and toupees, hair replacement systems can be put on by a professional to stay attached longer. Hair pieces are very reliable to men and women who do not wish to take hair loss medications or undergo surgical procedures. Wigs are probably one of the easiest and oldest remedies to mask baldness and hair loss.
Fortunately, these wigs have come a really long way in their overall appearances. Nowadays, these ‘hair systems’ look and feel very natural. For patients on medications like chemotherapy (where surgical procedures are not an option), these hair pieces are the most preferred option.
Although these hair systems tend to be high maintenance, they can be very worth it. You hair system can come permed, dyed, and brushed to match the hair you once had. If you get a very natural hair system, nobody will be able to tell the difference between your hair and the new hair.
Some of the most expensive hair systems do not rely on synthetics fibers, but instead use actual human hair. In addition, while it is costly, most people decide to purchase two hair systems. One you can wear, while the other is being cleaned and refurbished. Nevertheless, each person as their own desire and consequently there are different types of hair pieces to fit the needs of each person. Two hairpieces may not be needed if your hairpiece will not be used for daily use.
When you purchase a wig or toupee, the hair replacement center will need to ‘fit’ you for your hair system. It must be the right size to conform to your head and face, which will result in a more natural look. The lining of these hairpieces is usually very fine and comfortable to wear. You can compare the lining of many of these hairpieces, to say, the material used to make women’s pantyhose. It’s very light and delicate.
While many may argue that a hair replacement system, may not look 100% natural, it can most certainly make look and feel more confident about your hair loss condition. It’s definitely a proactive decision that has no safety risks to worry about. As you can see there are a lot of positive aspects when considering a hair piece. It’s as easy as 1,2,3. Slip it on and walk out the door without worrying about any side effects or future surgical appointments.

Hair Loss: Know The Cause, Know The Cure
Author: steve (12:00 pm)
by: Daniel Loh
Don’t you envy those young men in the streets with full heads of hair? Hair has always been considered a man’s crowning glory, while hair loss has been regarded as signs of ageing and unattractiveness.
So, losing hair has always been a problem for many men.
Well, it no longer has to be a problem! If you know your hair problem, you can find out the cure easily. In this article, I hope to present to you the major causes of hair loss, and the things that you should do if you have such a problem.
Of course, you may also want to take a look at my book:
http://www.myhealthweekly.com/presents/hairloss/
Cause 1: Genetic Balding
This is seen in men and women alike, and this constitutes the majority of cases of hair loss. The most commonly used cure is treatment with 2% topical minoxidil. However, only around 30% of users show noticeable improvement, and stopping the use of the drug might result in loss of the newly grown hair. When 0.05% retinoic acid solution is added however, a higher percentage of users show moticeable improvement. Consult your doctor about using these drugs.
Cause 2: Fungal Infection
Fungal infection often causes patchy hair loss, and red scalp, scaling (dandruff) and pus is often seen. This type of infection can be easily treated with a few months’ course of anti-fungal agents, used simultaneously with anti-fungal shampoo.
Cause 3: Major illness/surgery
After you have undergone a major illness or surgery, you might experience this type of hair loss. This type of hair loss can also follow stress or childbirth. However, such hair loss is temporary, and hair will regrow in a matter of months.
Cause 4: Drugs
There are various drugs that can cause hair loss, such as vitamin A, chemotherapy, blood thinners, and thyroid medication. However, hair will also regrow soon after the discontinuation of the drug. Alternative medication can be prescribed by the doctor if this is the cause of hair loss.
In conclusion, hair loss, though distressful, is not life threatening. Medication provided by the doctor can solve most of the problems, and in severe cases, a local injection onto the scalp will cause hair to grow back.

Hair Loss Solutions from a Pill
Author: steve (9:45 am)
by: Sandra Wellman
Most people believe the only way to cure their hair loss problem is from the outside, by using a chemical treatment, shampoo or other topical treatment. These ways can work for you, but in recent medical studies the main cause of hair loss, at least 95% of the time, is either genetic and or hormonal. A hormonal by product, DHT, affects the hair follicles, making them thinner and shrink until nothing is left. Research found that balding men had increased levels of DHT in these areas.
How to solve the problem of increased DHT
Simply, block it. Specific vitamins, minerals and herbs can block the DHT in your body. By taking these supplements orally, they block the DHT through the blood stream. The hair follicles beneath your scalp get all the nutrients they need to promote new healthy hair growth.
*Supplements:*
Biotin, part of the Vit B complex, helps with the skin condition of your scalp.
Other B vitamins, like B6, are essential for good health and hair growth.
Everyone knows Zinc helps your immume system, but it also is needed for cell division for the tissue of the hair, nails and skin.
Nettle Root blocks the 2 enzymes that produce DHT, now known to be the leading cause of hair loss.
Saw Palmetto also blocks one of the enzymes, 5 alpha-reductase, that produces DHT.
Gota Kola supports the integrity of hair growth, collagen and skin.
The oil extracted from pumpkin skins is also a natural hair loss remedy.
You can get all of the above and more in a caplet you only have to take twice per day? Yes, there is a hair loss solution from a pill and it’s not a prescription. You can cure your hair loss problem from the inside out naturally.

Hair Loss Remedies - How Do You Choose?
Author: steve (8:30 am)
by: Peter Crump
Hair Loss Remedies are big business, especially on the internet. However not all hair loss remedies are equal, and before you decide that it’s time to tackle your hair loss problem, you might like to think a little more about whether you need to seek out a hairloss remedy, and if so how.
The first thing you need to do before even thinking of looking for hair loss remedies is to consult your doctor. Not all hair loss is permanent. There are various medical conditions and medical treatments which cause hair loss. But when the condition or treatment is over the hair naturally grows back.
So it is essential to pinpoint the cause of your hair loss before you start on any search for hair loss remedies. Your doctor can advise and tell you whether you need to follow up and consult a specialist. Your specialist can advise specifically on what hair loss remedies are available to you.
However there is another step you need to take before you start on any hair restoration campaign using any of the multitude of hairloss remedies that can be found. Decide how important it is to you to do something about it if the verdict is that you have some form of permanent hair loss.
Hair loss is not a disease of itself. It is usually a normal condition that for many men, and some women, is a part of life. Just as some people get sick and others don’t, some suffer from hair loss and some don’t.
And as it is not a disease of itself it does not necessarily need to be treated. Whether you decide to look for some form of hairloss remedy is purely a personal decision based on personal and aesthetic considerations. Some people seem to see hair loss as a condition that needs to be treated as cancer needs to be treated, simply because it is there.
However that is not to say that you shouldn’t consider some form of hair loss treatment, just that you need to think about it and weigh up all the factors. And there is no rush. It is very rare for hair loss to happen fast. It is usually gradual and you have some time to think about your options.
Spend as much time as you feel you should to educate yourself about all the various hair loss remedies on the market. Don’t feel that you need to rush in and make a choice. You have time to educate yourself so that when you finally do decide to do something about it you know exactly what your options are.
And if you do finally decide to seek out the best hair loss remedies then you should be well educated and able to differentiate the snake oil from the real and very effective hair loss remedies that are available on the market. Because there are some very good ones out there. And some very bad ones. Make sure you know which is which.
So, if you are suffering from hair loss and are worried about it, take your time and take stock. Find out what the cause is. Find out whether you need to seek professional help or not. Find out what hair loss remedies are out there, how they work, (if they work), what they do, what they cost, what any possible side effects are and how likely they are to work for you.
And once you have spent some time investigating all possible avenues, considering all the factors involved, and investigated the particular products and options available to you, then you can make a calculated informed decision about whether, and if so how, to treat your hair loss.
You’ll be glad you took the time to think about it well. Then you should get the result you want. There’s no rush.

Hair Loss Prevention-What Should You Do?
Author: steve (8:00 am)
by: John Mancini
Hair loss prevention is one of those topics that tend to attract old wives tale-type treatment. While the only proven method to re-grow hair is the use of Propecia, the following tips may help you in your quest to prevent lossing it in the first place. While there isn’t any real scientific data to suggest that these tips do indeed help with hair loss prevention, trying them certainly can’t hurt.
When and if an illness is detected, it is important to take care of your health needs. If the doctor has prescribed medications, take it. Failure to follow the doctors advise will cause your body to work harder just to stay alive, it won’t have enough energey to keep the hair follicles growing and will eventually lead to hair loss. This is an excellent form of hair loss prevention.
A way to pamper yourself doubles as a hair loss prevention idea. Using satin or silk pillowcases, is thought to prevent hair loss due to the fact that a silk or satin pillowcase will cause less friction while sleeping than a cotton or flannel pillowcase. This is because the head and the hair slide across the pillow instead of needing to be forcefully pushed across.
It is important to eat healthy foods and ensure that your body is getting the vitamins and minerals that it needs. Often times the body will show poor health in the hair follicles and finger nails before and actual illness is detected. While it is important to get enough of the right nutrients, it is just as important not to get too much of any one type of vitamin. For example, too much of vitamins A and E, have been linked to hair loss.
There is a whole group of old wives’s tales that relate to hair loss prevention. These tips definatly won’t hurt to try, but really don’t do anything to combat the issue of hair loss. For instance, it has been said that standing upside down will increase blood flow to the head and that massaging the scalp or briskly brushing the hair will make the hair stay put and not fall out. This is simply not the case.
One widely held belief is that the over use of chemicals on the hair can cause hair thinning and eventually hair loss. If you like to enhance the look of your hair through chemical means, but are nervous about future hair loss, it is a good idea to only have this type of work done by a licensed beautitian. Many do-it-yourselfers are too inexperienced to properly perform chemical treatments to their hair, having a tendacncy to over apply the products. If you do color your hair, it is thought best to keep the frequency to a six or eight week minimum.
It is important to remember that even in a healthy person, it is completely normal to lose between 50 and 100 hairs from the head every day. If you feel that your hair loss issues are beyond that norm, speak with your doctor or dermatologist about your concerns. They will be able to determine if the hair loss is due to a medical or age issue, and point you in the right treatment direction.

Hair Loss Myths Debunked!
Author: steve (7:45 am)
by: Ian Byrd
Think you know what causes hair loss? Don’t believe everything you hear. You may be falling for some old wives’ tales that have only grown thanks to the internet. Make sure your facts are straight before trying to take hair loss on.
Myth 1 - Hat’s That!
Since the days of old, men have believed that their hair loss is influenced by how often they wear hats. The standard believe is that a hat stops air from getting to your hair. This results in hairs that suffocate. Other versions blame hair loss on the oil that gets trapped on your scalp by hats. This is simply not true. Unless you hat is so tight it is stopping blood from getting to your scalp, feel free to wear one as often as you like. A hat is even beneficial when your hair starts to thin since it stops the sun from damaging your scalp.
Myth 2 - Mommy Made Me Do It!
As fun as it is to blame your male pattern baldness on your mother, it’s just not accurate. The age old myth is that your mother carries the genes that caused your hair loss. In reality, genes from both your mother and father contribute to your lack of hair. So pass some of those vengeful stares over to your paternal grandfather as well.
Myth 3 - Too Much Gel, Hair Goes To Hell
Nope. You can slosh that hair spray and mousse on all you want. The product is just coating the outside of your hair and does nothing to the actual follicle. While a greased up hairdo may not yield the healthiest looking (or fashionable) hair, it’s not going to cause any thinning.
Myth 4 - Blame It On Work
Stress is frequently blamed as a cause of hair loss. In extreme cases, this may be true, but stress is never a cause of male pattern baldness. Stress may cause you hair to come out in clumps or stop growing, but it won’t trigger that beautiful hairdo so many men are sporting. So don’t use your hair loss as an excuse for that vacation!
Having accurate information is the first step in the battle of the hairline. Educate yourself so you can avoid silly rituals or placing blame on the wrong thing. The truth is, we don’t really know a lot about the causes and cures of hair loss. So read up and keep an eye out for these and other popular hair loss myths.

Hair Loss Is a Cause for Concern
Author: steve (6:00 am)
by: Joseph Then
Losing hair is not only a cosmetic problem though it can’t be denied that it can bring down your self-confidence and self esteem to a worrying degree. Hair loss can be indicative of more serious problems as well. So, the sooner we do something about it the better it is.
Let’s begin by understanding what it is and how it is caused. Baldness or alopecia is a state of losing excessive hair. You must know that losing 50 to 100 hairs in a day is considered normal. It’s when you lose more than that you should sit up and take note of the problem. Baldness can be the result of heredity, certain medications or an underlying medical condition. Anyone– men, women and children — can experience hair loss. However, in most cases it is caused by today’s stressful lifestyle, long working hours, pollution, poor diet, combined with alcohol, drugs and smoking.
There’s not much you can do about factors like heredity, but you can correct the other factors and improve the quality of your hair. Remember, hair loss is not an irreversible process. Hair is a bi-product of blood. Therefore to treat the hair and scalp, you cannot obtain a good result by using topical lotions alone. You cannot feed the hair externally. If you could, the shampoo or conditioner would do wonders. It is logical therefore to take care of your scalp and the composition of your blood. The composition of your blood and state of your scalp determine the quality and growth of your hair.
Your overall diet affects your blood. You must supplement your diet with live enzymes to help absorb vitamins in the body. They are normally only found in raw fruit and vegetables and uncooked food. You should drink lots of water also. Never comb your wet hair and never use a thin comb. Also avoid hot air dryers; let the hair dry naturally.
Stimulating the scalp is another way to tackle the problem of hair loss. You should massage your scalp with a tangy lotion to increase the blood flow around the hair follicles. Nourishments reaching the hair follicles will stimulate the hair to grow much fuller, shinier and healthier.
If you are losing large amounts of hair, see a physician. Hair loss may be caused by some health conditions such as high cholesterol levels. Often the hair grows back when the cause is corrected
If hair loss occurs at an age when you can afford to let it be, you should let your hair loss run its course untreated and unhidden. However, if it happens when you’re still too young to go around with a baldhead you may either cover it up with hairstyles, makeup, hats or scarves or choose one of the medications and surgical procedures that are available to treat hair loss. But, before pursuing any of these treatment options, talk to your doctor about the cause and best possible treatment for your hair loss.
