Facts for Men and Women Experiencing Hair Loss

Author: steve (7:15 pm)

by: Raj Pandey

Hair plays an important role in most people’s overall appearance. Hair, teeth, and nails are all admired and emulated as a sign of beauty in our society. Unfortunately, when we see signs of appearance slipping, we are devastated. As men and women, we have to realize that sometimes these things are out of our control. Hair loss does NOT imply that we’re ’slipping’ or ‘aging poorly.’ Instead, hair loss can be caused by a hereditary trait, a hormonal imbalance, stress, a reaction to medication, or a symptom of sickness.

If you’re concerned about your hair loss, you should contact your family physician. He/she may suggest a blood test and/or refer you to a dermatologist. A doctor can diagnose the cause of your condition through blood testing, history, and categorization.

Get the facts. The most common types of hair loss include:

Alopecia Areata: this condition is characterized by the loss of hair, which results in hairless, round patches on the scalp. In extreme cases, this condition may cause the complete loss of body hair. It is commonly found in people under the age of thirty.

Androgenetic Alopecia: this condition has been coined “pattern baldness.” It’s common is men and women over the age of forty and affects both men and women differently. Men tend to experience a receding/thinning front hairline. In women, this condition may result in thinning to the top of the scalp. Typically, the front hairline is preserved.

Telogen effluvium: Also known as “resting hair loss,” can be a little trickier to diagnose as it doesn’t effect one particular area of the scalp. Men and women who experience diffuse hair loss quite commonly experience this condition. It occurs often after childbirth, surgery, infection, and can accompany autoimmune diseases.

Did you know that hair products can cause hair loss? It’s true.

- Men and women who wear tight ponytails and braids on a regular basis are prone to receding hairlines and thin hair.
- Use of heavy styling products, including sprays, hairs, and gels (which contain alcohol) weather the hair and promote breakage.
- Hair perms and dyes dry the hair and cause breakage.
- Hair Loss in hair stylists is exceptionally high as they tend to use an excessive amount of cosmetic hair products.

Today, there’s a number of treatments available to men and women experiencing balding and/or hair loss. You name it, it’s available. Topical creams, oral medications, injections of cortisone, scalp reductions, and hair transplants are all accessible to the man and women who wish to change their appearance.

Nevertheless, what works for one person may not work for another. Consult with your physician to see which option (if any) would suit your condition.

Emotional Effects of Hair Loss

Author: steve (6:45 pm)

by: Raj Pandey

Hair loss is known as a medical problem, but it can easily become emotionally troublesome, as hair loss has been known to cause extreme emotional distress. This is because our hair has a deep effect on how we feel about inner and outer selves.

Hair loss is especially difficult for women, as many women judge their sexual appeal and self worth by their outward look. The sudden loss of hair has been reported to make women feel worthless, ugly, and unwanted. While the women often wear wigs in public at home they know their husbands or boyfriends will see the balding and even if the man completely understands this is likely to make the woman feel insecure.

For children who lose their hair due to medication or illness the fate can seem like a death sentence in itself. Other children simply don’t understand the effects of chemotherapy, and if they do, they tend to be afraid of the sick child because they’ve never been exposed to severe illness or death. For many children losing their hair may also mean losing their friends.

Even though it is more acceptable for men to bald, they too have issues about the loss of their hair. Perhaps this is because hair loss is seen as a sign of aging. It doesn’t help much that the balding usually begins about the time a man is entering the middle of his life and is beginning to rethink what he has and has not accomplished. For men, the balding seems to reaffirm the fact that they are old and that their life is coming closer to an end.

Coping with these feelings is different for everyone. Covering the balding will give one more confidence but it may not alleviate all the feelings that the balding originally caused. For this reason further coping mechanisms are often needed.

Women may need therapy. This will help them find self worth in things other than their physical appearance. While many women may not want to see a therapist, it is important that they do what it takes to feel important and appreciated with or without hair.

Children have found peace in the past through friends or family members who have shaved their heads too while the child was bald. Mothers and family friends who shave their heads can donate their hair to be made into wigs for bald children. This proactive decision will make the child feel happy, proactive, less strange, and more accepted.

Do natural hair loss remedies have any real relevance?

Author: steve (5:30 pm)

by: Richard Mitchell

The effectiveness of modern hair loss treatments is clear for all to see, but many people simply prefer not to use strong chemicals or non-natural substances.

If you fall into this category, does this mean you’ll just have to accept an ever-decreasing head of hair? The answer to this is an unequivocal NO!

Many natural hair loss remedies, both traditional and contemporary, have shown their worth in reducing and reversing hair loss. They are also perceived as being free from side effects and even deliver additional health benefits.

Why then, don’t we hear a lot more about these natural hair loss remedies? Simply because claims of cures cannot be made without FDA approval, and obtaining the FDA seal of approval involves lengthy and expensive scientific research that only major companies can afford. Even the biggest companies could not recoup the costs of such a process as no-one can control the rights to common natural substances such as basic foods and vitamins.

The big question however is, do natural hair loss remedies work? Firstly, hair growth at root level is a living part of the body that depends on sound nutrition, just like any other part of the body. The importance of vitamins, minerals and other nutritional elements in maintaining healthy hair cannot be disputed.

Secondly, the role of herbs and plants in treating numerous ailments is receiving increased recognition after years of neglect, and hair loss is no exception. Many herbal remedies for both internal and external use are offering new hope to people suffering from premature hair loss.

Thirdly, traditional hair loss remedies may still have something to offer. Ancient literature and folklore reveal that our ancestors went to great lengths to treat thinning hair. Some of the more acceptable traditional approaches are now being incorporated into many potential treatment regimes.

Develop a strategy for dealing with hair loss.

Author: steve (4:45 pm)

by: Richard Mitchell

The fact you are reading this probably indicates you have concerns about the rate of your hair loss. Baldness may sometimes be a source of amusement to those with a full head of hair, but premature hair loss at any age can be the cause of intense concern to those affected.

But you can do something about this! By following the guidelines suggested in this article you will place yourself in a position to identify a hair loss treatment that not only works but also fits in with your lifestyle and preferences.

To achieve this you must truthfully answer four simple questions:

1. What is the true cause of your hair loss?

Most instances of hair loss in men, for example, can be attributed to androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) but you must be certain as this will influence your choice of hair loss treatment. To be completely certain you should consult with your physician.

2. How far has your hair loss progressed?

It is crucial to realize that the sooner you start treating hair loss, the greater your chances of success. You need to identify the pattern of hair loss as this will help establish both the cause and most effective treatment option.

3. What hair loss treatment options are you prepared to consider?

Your answer to this question will depend on a number of factors including the type and extent of hair loss, what treatments have been tried previously, your personal preferences with regard to using medications or natural remedies and the amount you are prepared to spend.

4. Do you have sufficient patience and determination to succeed?

There really are no miracle cures for premature hair loss. Equally, there are treatments that can halt and even reverse this condition, but none of them will work overnight. Treatments take time to work and there is no such thing as a remedy that suits everyone.

When you have given proper consideration to these questions you will find yourself in a better position to choose the hair loss treatment that best suits your circumstances. It you’re still not sure, talk to your physician or carry out more research. But you need to be clear on one point - the longer you delay, the more difficult your path to hair regrowth will be.

Please go to Hair Loss Treatments to find out more about the issues covered in this article.

Cutting to the Chase: The Truth Behind Men’s Hair Loss

Author: steve (3:45 pm)

by: Jacqueline Hennessey

Millions American men are affected by hair loss and want to know why it happens. A leading surgeon in New England sheds some light on the causes of hair loss – from myths to truths. (PRWEB) May 16, 2005 — Hair loss is not a subject that’s commonly discussed among “the guys”. But millions of men in America are affected by this embarrassing condition and want to know why it happens. Dr. Robert Leonard, a leading hair restoration surgeon in New England, sheds some light on the causes of hair loss – from myths to truths. Myths: - Shaving your head to disguise a receding hairline causes one to lose his hair. - Wearing a hat to hide a bald spot causes hair loss. - How often you wash your hair. - The type of shampoo you use. - How you brush or comb your hair. - How you rub your head. - Clogged pores on the scalp. Truths: - One of the most common causes of hair loss is genetics — that’s right, genetics. 98 percent of hair loss is caused by genetics. It is polygenic, which means that it can come from either or both sides of one’s family. - The medical term for the condition that affects greater than 50 percent of men is androgenetic alopecia, or male pattern baldness. - There are two known causes of this hair loss condition: DHT and decreased Capillary blood flow. The hormone called di-hydrotestosterone (DHT) is the major biochemical cause of male pattern hair loss, a hormone by-product of testosterone. - DHT causes regular-sized hairs to turn into miniaturized hairs, leading to thinning hair and baldness. This process does not happen overnight, and generally takes three to 10 years to notice. Other potential causes for hair loss: - Illness - Severely poor diet - Medications But all these reasons fall far behind heredity. Hair loss can be broken down into several different types, including alopecia areata (temporary hair loss in a coin-shaped patch), telogen effluvium (temporary hair loss secondary to a stressor on the system), and androgenetic alopecia (male-pattern hair loss). Dr. Robert Leonard, founder and chief surgeon of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates, provides the latest technology in hair restoration surgery and non-surgical hair loss treatment. LHTA is committed to the community and to the highest quality of medical and surgical care for their patients throughout New England, across the United States, and from around the world. Dr. Leonard has offices in Newton, Braintree, Boston, Worcester and Cape Cod (Hyannis), Massachusetts; and Middletown and Cranston, Rhode Island. Cosmetic solutions for hair loss.

Author: steve (3:15 pm)

by: Richard Mitchell

Many people suffering from hair loss prefer not to use the strong drugs and medications that currently form the best available treatment options. They may have tried a range of treatments but found they did not work or perhaps suffered unpleasant side effects. What options are left for such people, especially if they do not wish to consider surgery?

There are a number of solutions available but the final decision will be strongly influenced by the amount of thinning that needs to be covered.

1. Creative styling - this is perhaps the easiest option but its success depends on how far your hair loss has progressed. Slight balding can easily be camouflaged by careful grooming but attempts at covering large bald patches can end up looking ridiculous. One option for men with extensive thinning is to shave the head completely but this is not for everyone.

2. Hair cosmetics - this can include anything from hair thickening / volumizing products to dyes and fibers that blend with existing hair. Once again, these solutions really only work if the area of scalp to be covered is minimal.

3. Head coverings - seen by many as a last resort, wigs and hairpieces offer a further option. Once an object of derision, hairpieces have improved beyond recognition in recent years, although the price you are prepared to pay will determine the realism of the final result. Wigs come in all shapes and sizes and can be made from real or synthetic hair, but be warned the best ones are very expensive.

Commonly Available Hair Loss Help

Author: steve (3:00 pm)

by: William R. Nabaza of http://www.nabaza.com/beauty.htm

Many women and men are looking for help to cure hair loss. It is a problem affecting one’s social life. Most of us feel that the outer appearance is an important thing to be successful. Hence there is great need for hair loss products..

Hair loss treatments are available in different forms such as medicines, lotions, and shampoos. To choose the drug that is right for you, you first need to figure out the cause of your hair loss. There are many reasons for losing hair: aging, heredity and hormonal imbalance. DHT, Dihydrotestosterone is an important precursor for hair loss. DHT will block the flow of essential nutrient to the hair, which in turn stops healthy hair growth.

Saw Palmetto is a powerful herb that lowers the DHT in the body by 5 alpha-reductase blockades. Saw Palmetto stops hair loss by blocking the cell membrane receptor sites in the hair follicle where DHT might get absorbed.

Another herb called Nettle Root also provides hair loss cure by preventing two enzymes viz., aromatase and 5 alpha-reductase, which makes estrogen and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) respectively. Research confirmed that these two enzymes have been blocked completely by the Nettle Root extract.

A cure of hair loss can also be achieved by choosing the medications that block DHT. Hair Genesis, NuGen, and Revivogen are the most suitable medications to block DHT in the scalp. Out of these three products, Revivogen is the most popular one. It fights against the thinning of hair by minimizing the DHT level in the scalp.

Viviscal, Nisim, Folligen and Tricomin are the commonly available shampoos, scalp lotions and conditioners that help to stop hair loss. Viviscal is used extensively for curing hair loss. It is available in tablet form also. Folligen is available with copper peptides to treat hair loss. Tricomin is available in three forms as spray, shampoo and conditioner. It also contains copper.

Trace minerals such as Zinc and magnesium also help to stop hair loss. Zinc is mainly helpful in fighting against skin problems such as boils, sore throats and acne. In addition to this, Zinc plays a crucial role in cell division.

Though there are so many medicines are available to help treating hair loss, only two medications (Rogaine and Propecia) have been approved by the FDA. Rogaine and Propecia are used by men oll over the world to stop hair loss.

Common Types of Hair loss Treatments

Author: steve (1:45 pm)

by: Justin Arlan

Hair loss affects millions of men. Not only does it make men look older beyond their years, it also has a negative effect on self esteem and social confidence. There are three types of hair loss treatments not including hairpieces, weaves and surgical methods.

The most widely used treatments are natural based and cosmetically based lotions, shampoos and herbal supplements. Many users swear by these products that claim to be effective for regrowing hair. Most of these products clean the scalp which allow the hair follicle to breathe and deliver important nutrients to the hair and follicle. Others decrease the hormones in the body that have shown in studies to decrease hair growth.

The second types of products are medical topical solutions. One of the commonly known over the counter topical solution is Rogaine, which contains Minoxodil. Minoxodil has been medically proven to grow hair. Other products are special concoctions such as Minoxodil with Retin A. Retin A allows the hair follicle in the scalp to absorb more of the Minoxodil. These special topical concoctions usually require a prescription from a doctor.

The third type is an oral treatment called Propecia. Propecia lowers chemicals levels in the body that decrease the growth of hair. Propecia has been shown effective in regrowing hair in many studies. However, Propecia does require a prescription. So if you started losing your hair learn more about the various treatments available and you will be looking better in no time.

Biotin and Hair Loss- an Overview

Author: steve (1:00 pm)

by: William R. Nabaza of http://www.nabaza.com/beauty.htm

It is onehundred percent true that Biotin plays an important role in the prevention of hair loss. According to nutritionists biotin is an important vitamin for hair growth. It is also highly advisable to take biotin in addition to other medcial treatments such Minoxidil, Poscar or Propecia.

Biotin and hair loss are inter related. Deficiency of biotin may cause unhealthy and breakage of hair, which might finally lead to hair loss. Biotin is an important component not only to new hair growth but also keeps the skin and nails in perfect health.

Try to avoid raw eggs in your diet since the high amount of protein contained in raw egg binds biotin and makes it non-available to the body which in turn causes deficiency of biotin and hair loss. Always use shampoo, which is enriched with biotin and silica for preventing hair loss.

Supplements are necessary to restore B12 levels, which will completely prevent hair loss. Since Biotin and hair loss are closely related, it is highly advisable to include biotin regularly in your food. Food containing a lot of biotin are egg yolks and liver. You would have to consume thousands of calories daily to get what your hair needs. That’s why I suggest biotin supplements.

People with blood type A don’t have the ability to absorb B vitamins. As we already know Biotin, a family member of Vitamin B, is required for hair growth. Adding high doses of 5–8 grams to your food twice daily will prevent hair loss extensively. No side effects are known.

Biotin and hair loss are closely related. So good food full of biotin include brewer’s yeast, green peas, oats, soybeans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, green peas, bulgur and brown rice may definitely help to prevent hair loss.

You should be aware that persons with heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD that are taking antacids may absorb biotin less and hair loss may definitely occur. So avoid over-the-counter medications of antacids for better assimilation of Biotin and hair loss prevention.

Biotin is hair food! If you suffer from hair loss I highly recommend taking a biotin supplement and using a biotin enriched shampoo.

Best Hair Loss Treatment - A Lot Of Options

Author: steve (12:45 pm)

by: Paul Cris

Hair loss creates baldness. A bald person looks older than his real age. This abnormal hair loss is technically called alopecia. It does not affect our health directly but indirectly it creates problems, such as low self esteem. When alopecia occurs at a young age, it creates an inferiority complex that leads to other health problems. Hence, we should attend to this problem and go for a hair loss treatment. There are many treatments; some are medications and some are surgeries. You need to find the best hair loss treatment by consulting a specialist. If the condition is not severe, then, you can stop the hair loss with Propecia.

Propecia is a well-known medicine and very popular. A regular use of Propecia can stop hair loss and even re-grow hair. Not just Propecia, there are other options too that could be better for your hair. In the past people did not have many options to fight baldness. The most common way was to buy a wig and cover the

head. But now with the advancement of science we have many more ways for treating hair loss. Some of the better hair loss treatments are:

Bio matrix treatment: This is widely known as hair weaving. Hair is woven to cover the bald patch. Today hair weaving has emerged as one of the best and popular treatments for hair loss.

Surgical hair transplant: The hair follicles in the bald patches are transplanted with hair. In each follicle up to four hairs can be transplanted. Hair is picked from other areas of your scalp where hair is still thick. To be successful this treatment needs a healthy growth.

These are some of the well-known hair loss treatments that are famous and widely used. A lof of people have been benefited by these treatments.

Paul has been providing answers to lots of queries through his website on a wide variety of subjects ranging from satellite phones to acne.
